Pausing and ending a campaign

A paused campaign stops scheduling anything new and keeps everything else. An ended campaign is permanent and cancels every upcoming session.

Sessions already confirmed survive a pause untouched.

Why campaigns pause

Roll Call pauses a campaign itself when it cannot sensibly keep scheduling. The GM is told the reason:

  • Too few players left to continue.
  • Several rounds in a row produced no viable times.
  • No recent activity from the GM, or no sessions played in a long while.
  • A free trial ended, or a subscription lapsed.
  • More campaigns or players than the plan allows.

Players see only that scheduling is paused, never the reason.

Pausing on purpose

There is no pause button in the app. A GM whose campaign has a linked Discord channel can run /rollcall pause there, and /rollcall resume to start again.

Otherwise, leave the campaign alone. Roll Call pauses it on its own once the group has been quiet for a few cadence cycles.

Resume a campaign

  1. Open the campaign.
  2. Click Resume Campaign in the paused banner.

Resuming starts a fresh scheduling round and asks every player for availability again.

A campaign paused over a plan limit will not resume until the limit is met. Remove a player, end another campaign, or upgrade. See Plans and the free trial.

End a campaign

  1. Go to the campaign's Edit screen.
  2. Click End Campaign.
  3. Type the campaign name exactly to confirm.

Every upcoming session is cancelled and all players are notified. The campaign stays readable, and it stops counting against your plan's campaign limit.

Ending is final

An ended campaign cannot be reopened. To play with the same group again, create a new campaign and share a fresh invite link.

Reaching the end

Campaigns with a fixed number of sessions or a planned end date stop scheduling once they get there. They are neither paused nor ended.

Use Extend Campaign on the campaign page to add more before the last session lands.
