Discord commands

Roll Call's Discord bot works through one slash command. Type /rollcall in a channel, then pick a command from the list Discord shows.

A GM links a channel to a campaign once, with /rollcall setup. Run every other command in that linked channel. In a server with more than one campaign, the channel is how Roll Call knows which campaign you mean.

Anyone can run most commands. /rollcall nudge, /rollcall pause and /rollcall resume are for the campaign's GM. Replies are private: only the person who ran the command sees them.

/rollcall setup

Links a Discord channel to one of your campaigns. Run it in the channel where your party should see Roll Call's posts.

  1. Run /rollcall setup in that channel.
  2. Click Choose a campaign in the reply. The link works for 24 hours.
  3. Sign in to Roll Call if asked.
  4. Click Connect next to the campaign, or Create a New Campaign.

Roll Call then posts a welcome in the channel with your campaign's join link, so players can join straight from Discord. Scheduling updates and session confirmations appear there too.

Setup needs permission to manage the channel or the server in Discord, which server owners and admins already have. Only the campaign's GM can connect a campaign to a channel.

A campaign links to one channel, and a channel to one campaign. To move a campaign, click Disconnect in the Discord panel on its page, then run setup in the new channel.

/rollcall availability

Replies with a link to the campaign's session poll, where you give or change your availability. Anyone can run it. See Answering the session poll.

/rollcall status

Shows where the campaign's scheduling stands. While a round is open, it lists the players who have given their availability and the ones the round is still waiting on. It also tells you when scheduling is paused or the campaign has ended. Anyone can run it.

/rollcall next

Shows the next upcoming session: its date, time and length, and everyone who has not said they will miss it. Times are in the GM's time zone. Anyone can run it.

/rollcall schedule

Lists up to 5 upcoming sessions, with the date, time and length of each. Times are in the GM's time zone. Anyone can run it.

/rollcall help

Replies with a link to this article and to the rest of the Help Center. It works in any channel, even before a campaign is linked. Anyone can run it.

/rollcall nudge

GM only. Nudge does whatever moves the campaign forward from where it stands, so you can run it as often as you like.

  • While you recruit, it posts your join link in the campaign's channel for everyone to see, at most once every 60 minutes. If someone is waiting for your approval, it tells you that instead. Once enough players have joined, it points you to Begin scheduling on the campaign page.
  • While a round is open, it reminds each player who has not given their availability. Players who have linked Discord get a DM unless they turned Discord notifications off, and everyone else hears through their other notifications. The reply lists who was reached and how.
  • At any other time, nobody is nudged. That covers between rounds, a paused campaign and an ended one. For a paused campaign, the reply says why it is paused and how to resume.

/rollcall pause

GM only. Pauses scheduling: an open round closes, and nobody is asked for availability until you resume. Sessions already booked stay booked. A campaign that is still recruiting has nothing to pause yet.

Roll Call can also pause a campaign on its own. See Pausing and ending a campaign.

/rollcall resume

GM only. Resumes a paused campaign. If it had already started scheduling, a fresh round opens and every player is asked for their availability again. A campaign paused before scheduling began goes back to recruiting instead.

If your subscription has lapsed, or the campaign is over a plan limit, it stays paused and the reply says what to do.

When a command refuses

  • No Campaign Linked. Roll Call found no campaign for this channel. Run the command in your campaign's linked channel, or ask the GM to run /rollcall setup.
  • GM Only. The command is for the campaign's GM. If that is you, check that you are in the campaign's linked channel, and that Discord is connected under Connected Accounts on your Profile.
  • Can't Use This Channel. Roll Call is missing permissions there. The reply names them. Add them in the channel's settings, then run setup again.
  • Roll Call Isn't in This Server. The bot was removed, but its commands stayed behind. Add Roll Call again from the link in the reply, then run setup.
