My Lines & Veils

My Lines & Veils is your own set of Lines and Veils, saved to your Roll Call profile. You fill it in once and can update it at any time. Lines and Veils was designed by Ron Edwards (Sex & Sorcery, 2003).

  • Ok is fine to play out.
  • Veil can happen in the background, never in an active scene.
  • Line never comes up in the game.

Not on Roll Call? See Public Lines & Veils.

Fill in yours

  1. Open the user menu and choose My Lines & Veils.
  2. Click Answer it.
  3. Mark every card Ok, Veil or Line.
  4. Add up to 5 cards of your own if you want.
  5. Click Submit my answers.

The 73 cards, buttons, keys and swipes are the same as in a public deck. See Public Lines & Veils.

Update at any time

Open My Lines & Veils and click Change your answers. Your new answers replace the old. Roll Call stores your answers when you submit. Until then they stay only in this browser tab.

Under What you marked, the page lists your Lines, then your Veils. Cards you marked only Ok are not listed. Before you fill it in, the page says "You have not filled these in yet."

Cards of your own

A card of your own is a Veil or a Line, never Ok. It appears in your Lines & Veils with the rest.

Campaigns for GMs

A GM can ask the whole campaign for Lines and Veils. It is off by default and free on every plan.

The GM turns it on in one of two places:

  • When creating the campaign, answer Yes to "Gather your players' Lines & Veils?". What's this? opens this article.
  • On the campaign's Lines & Veils page. Open the campaign, click the Lines & Veils row, then use the switch next to Lines & Veils for this campaign. Turning it off hides it and deletes no one's answers.

When the GM turns it on with the switch, each member who has not filled in their Lines and Veils gets an email, and a Discord message if they have Discord linked. Push and text messages are off unless the member turns them on in notification settings. Someone who joins later without a set is asked once for that campaign. If the campaign has a linked Discord channel, Roll Call posts "Lines & Veils is on" there once.

The GM also gets a message, at most once a day, when a player answers or changes theirs. It says nothing about who or what.

Campaigns for players

A member with no set sees a banner on the dashboard and the campaign page. Click Fill in my Lines & Veils. The banner stays until you fill yours in, and one answer clears it for every campaign.

The campaign page has a Lines & Veils row. It reads "On", with when it was last updated, or "Off". Click it to open the campaign's Lines & Veils page.

That page shows how many have answered, such as "3 of 5 have answered", and a button: Answer it or Change your answers. The results combine the sets of the current members, the GM included. Someone who leaves drops out. They list the Lines, then the Veils, and never who marked what. If a list has nothing in it, it says "None yet."

Until 2 people have answered, the page says "Results appear once 2 people have answered." If the GM has turned it off, other members see "Lines & Veils is off for this campaign."

Import a deck

If you answered a public deck, you can copy those answers to your profile. Importing is optional.

  1. Open the deck's private link while you are signed in to Roll Call.
  2. Click Import this deck to your Roll Call profile.

If your profile already has different answers, the button reads Overwrite your Roll Call profile's deck with this one and replaces them. If they match, the page says "This deck matches your profile". Just sign out and view it signs you out and takes you to the deck's questionnaire page, where the link is still waiting. Cancel leaves your profile as it was and returns you to your dashboard.

If you wait more than 30 minutes before you choose, the page says "That link has expired. Open it again to continue."

Public decks

A public deck can't be viewed or answered while you are signed in. The page says "Sign out to view this deck". Click Sign out, or click My Lines & Veils to go back to your own.
